Launching of General Theme for SY 2016-2017 June 20, 2016

Pope Francis has often thought of how the Church may render clearer her mission to be a witness to mercy; and we have to make this journey which begins with spiritual conversion. Therefore he decided to announce an Extraordinary Jubilee which has as its centre the mercy of God. It is a Holy Year of Mercy a time of grace, peace, conversion and joy. It is meant for everyone; people of every age, from far and near. There are no walls or distances which can prevent the Father’s mercy from reaching and embracing us.

Considering this call to Mercy by our Pope, and with this as background, we have chosen as our general theme for this school year: “BE MERCIFUL LIKE GOD.”

We recognize that Jesus Christ “is the face of the Father’s mercy.” May we never cease to proclaim to the world the pardon and salvation offered through Jesus, and to live out the Gospel through humble acts of acts of mercy. When we speak of mercy, we are not merely advocating for gentleness, compassion, generosity, and nature. The call to become merciful (MT. 5:7) is not simply an invitation to a more non-judgmental way of looking at others and ourselves; it is the individual to “be merciful as God is merciful,” (Lk. 6:36) that is, to participate in the very way in which God loves his creatures.
