STC Celebrates the Feast of the Three Women Disciples October 14, 2016

God has blessed us with this grace moment to celebrate the Feast in Honor of the Three Women Disciples: Mother Mary, St. Theresa of Avila, and Mother Marie Louise de Meester. We are grateful to have these blessed women as our mentors of faith. Respectively, they teach us OBEDIENCE TO GOD’S WILL, PRAYER AS MEANS TO NOURISH A DEEP FRIENDSHIP WITH JESUS, and GENEROSITY OF HEART FOR GOD’S MISSION.

Celebrating this feast during the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, is indeed an appropriate moment to have a look at the mystery of mercy in the light of the living example of these three women. As faithful disciples of Jesus, they have offered their lives to heal the wounds of the poor and the afflicted with God’s compassion and mercy. They have been good shepherds described by Pope Francis as those who smell like the people, who bear the odor of God’s flock and who “with their reflection pour oil and wine on the wounds of the people.”

As a Church today, in this era of profound changes, Pope Francis invites all of us to go out as “missionary disciples” who offer our talents, creativity, wisdom and experience in order to bring the message of God’s mercy and compassion to the entire cosmos. We need to take as our own “the joys and the hopes, the grief and anxieties (GS 1) of our people. Like the three women disciples, we need to go out and be with the poor, the sick, the outcasts, the marginalized, those in the fringes and peripheries of society. This is Jesus’ mission and He shares this mission to each of us: to make God’s merciful love visible through deeds of service.
