St. Theresa’s College of Cebu invests in authentic Christian Education through upcoming 4-storey Senior High School Building

Amidst cloudy skies and the looming threat of rain, St. Theresa’s College Board of Trustees successfully led the groundbreaking ceremony last Friday, August 11, 2017 at St. Theresa’s College of Cebu.

The construction of the Senior High School building is part of the school’s aim to strengthen more than ever the basic Theresian foundation and to value authentic Christian education. As the STC Directress, Sr. Maria Cora P. Sastre, ICM, said in her welcome remarks, “The best legacy to outlive us is an investment in quality Christian Catholic Education.”

During the blessing of the site Fr. Ernesto O. Javier, SJ, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, said that “Love of God and neighbor is not only taught, but lived.” The upcoming building is to be an investment of the school for quality Christian education where the children may not only grow with knowledge but also with authentic Christian values.

The Board of Trustees, ICM Sisters, Alumnae, Parents, Contractor, Architects, Engineers, Department Heads, and Donors all lined up with their hats and shovels during the turning of soil while Sr. Cora initiated the burying of the time capsule. Selected Senior High School students and student leaders then planted the turn-over seeds as a symbol of accepting and nurturing God’s dream for the next generation.

The 4-storey Senior High School building is set to be finished by the contractor, Primary Structures Corporation in 8 months.

It will accommodate 10 classrooms. There is also a plan to expand it to five floors which would let it house around 16 classrooms including the Chemistry, Physics, and Biology laboratories and other facilities.

The building will also have a ballet studio center and multipurpose hall in the basement which will serve as a court for sports like badminton and table tennis.

As Fr. Javier said during the blessing of the site, “This groundbreaking ceremony is an invitation to each one of us to join hands, hearts, and resources to make this building a reality.”
