Visit of the Relic of St. Theresa of Avila, September 29, 2014 – October 3, 2014, STC Chapel

We welcome in our midst St. Theresa of Avila, the founder of the Order of Discalced Carmelites in the form of her relic. She tours around as preparation for the celebration of her 500th birthday on March 28, 2015.

In her lifetime she was known to be a woman who had developed a very deep relationship with Jesus that to her Jesus is enough and nothing else matters. To sustain this relationship, she spent more time during the day in prayerful silence simply enjoying the presence of Jesus in her inmost self. She had put all these experiences in writing from which the whole Catholic Church ha d learned much. This beautiful relationship was shown in her way of relating joyfully, warmly and humbly with others. She was also the kinds of woman who was determined to pursue with all her might to obey Jesus no matter how difficult the situations were in performing her mission of leading the Discalced Carmelites toward God. All these, made Pope Paul VI declare her as the first woman doctor of the Church on September 27, 1970.

We are so lucky to be graced with valuable presence of our school patroness in our midst for few days. May her visit inspire us to grow closer to Jesus as we continue to spend more time with him in prayerful silence so that with his guidance we may become good children of God hoping that one day we can be worthy to join Jesus with our patroness St. Teresa in heaven.
